Invitation for informal/ unpaid carers to give their views
to inform a Carers Action Plan for the States of Guernsey
and to attend an Engagement Event on
Thursday 15th February 5.30 – 7.30pm at Les Cotils, Harry Bound Room

In line with the Supported Living and Ageing Well Strategy agreed by the States of Deliberation in 2016, the States of Guernsey is currently developing aCarers Action Plan. The Plan will focus on the needs of people who care for or support family members and friends, unpaid, (referred to as ‘carers’) and will set out the improvements to the services and support that carers can expect, in order to better support carers to be able to fulfil their caring responsibilities and to participate fully in society.
Carers fulfil a variety of roles, for example, a carer could be caring for a parent with dementia, a child with Down’s Syndrome, a spouse who has had a stroke, or a friend who has severe depression. Many people will have caring responsibilities at some point in their lives. We know that for some people, without the right support, a caring role can have a significant impact on the carer’s wellbeing, relationships, ability to work or study, finances and their ability to sustain their caring role.
It is important that we identify ways to better support carers in the important roles that they undertake. A Carers Action Plan will be published during 2018 outlining the priority actions that the States of Guernsey has identified to improve support for carers.
To inform the Carers Action Plan we are currently seeking carers’ views on the services and support that they currently receive, or would like to receive in the future. We have put together a short survey which should take no more than 10 – 15 minutes to complete. Anyone who carries out (or has carried out in the past) informal caring responsibilities, or works with or is closely involved with carers, is invited to complete the survey.
To help us to develop this plan, you are invited to:
–          take part in our Survey of Carers’ views (please do share this with other carers you are in contact with). The survey can be accessed online here:https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/GZ7FQC9 or if you would prefer a paper copy, please get in touch with us (carers@gov.gg or 01481 732546). The deadline for providing survey responses is Wednesday 7th February 2018.
–          attend a Carers Action Plan Engagement Event that will be held on Thursday 15th February 5.30 – 7.30pm at Les Cotils. At this event we will present our findings so far and we will be seeking further input into the development of the Carers Action Plan. If you are able to join us for this discussion, we would be very keen to hear your views. Please email carers@gov.gg to reserve a place at the event. (Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis).
