Picture of accessible cabs
The Environment Department recently issued four new taxis licences specifically for accessible taxi cabs. Three of the cabs are now fully operational so the Department hs published a new leaflet giving the contact details for the drivers and explaining how the service works. There are lots of hints and tips in it that will be useful to anyone who takes taxis regularly.
The new taxis are fully accessible to wheelchairs users, with shallow ramps and a winch system, and the drivers have also been specially trained to offer a good service to anyone with mobility, hearing and visual impairments and learning difficulties.
Non-disabled people are welcome to support this new initiative by booking trips with the new drivers, but if a disabled person needs the cab, the booking will be passed on to a non-accessible cab.
